Just a quick note to let you know that I arrived in Greenland yesterday and have already started my trek. So far the trail seem to be much better than it was last year...as you know, I am doing this alone this year, so this is especially good news!
Yesterday, I made it to the 2nd hut on the trail only to find that I had lost my map. I dropped my backpack off in the hut and backtracked, hoping to be able to find it. Needless to say, I was elated to find my map...and the GPS watch I am using is definitely coming in handy!!
Unfortunately, the fuel I purchased when I arrived in Greenland cannot be used with my stove because the connector is different. I made it to a different hut further on the trail last night and was able to boil water with a different stove. I was so happy because it is very windy and cold and I was freezing by the time I go to the hut. In addition, I lost my "foldable" poles; however, I was able to find a short pair and say that they are working okay.
Despite these setbacks, Alicja appears to be in good spirits and very positive...she gets the prize for making lemonade out of lemons!! I send a very big THANK YOU to the person that gave me the pink baby padding...it has been much appreciated!!
So far on the trail, I have seen 3 Arctic bunnies and some reindeer...but NO PEOPLE!!
Stay tuned for more updates...
