Alicja Barahona was born in Poland in 1954 and has lived in New York since the 1980s. She took up running in her early forties, after tennis, and ran her first ultramarathon in 1997 at forty-three. She worked full time as a scientist throughout.
This site was rebuilt from her own website, which she wrote and maintained from 2004 until 2017 and which is no longer at its old address, together with the DUV ultramarathon database and contemporary press coverage.
Every claim carries a tier saying how it is known: her own words, her own website, a results database, the press, or unverified. Where two sources disagree, the site says so rather than choosing one quietly.
